It’s been a crazy week here. It started on Sunday, just as the rummage sale was winding down.
A volunteer named Marin and I had just begun boxing up the last of the knickknacks when a storm rolled in out of nowhere. And this wasn’t just any storm—it felt like some kind of angry emotion hurtling toward the theater. Suddenly, there was a flash, and a shocking crack of thunder shook the building to its rafters.
When I opened my eyes, the elevator was on fire. My hand was already resting on the fire extinguisher. I stepped forward, never more certain of my purpose in this life.
I sprayed down the flames, and within seconds, it was reduced to a smolder.
Thank goodness I was able to put the flames out before they spread. That was lucky, but the elevator car was destroyed.
My friend Wally (the elevator expert) is on his way over to inspect the cables and what may be salvaged from the shocked mechanics at the top of the shaft.
I’ll let you know what he says.
For now, I am still trying to catch my breath!
You mentioned you had a premonition something might happen. Guess I better put my money down so I can find out the scoop!
Wow! I’ve been busy and have been away from here for a while (and still need to get caught up on some recent posts) but what a bang of a post today — literally. I jumped at the last big thunder both times I listened. Really nice sound design! Good thing I’m a paying subscriber so I can get the follow-up!
